Accessories for solid cosmetics

Four objects with a single job: drying a solid bar between uses. It is standing water, not use, that melts a soap.

The real subject

What wears out a solid bar is not use

A soap that vanishes in three weeks has not been overused: it sat in water. A bar left at the bottom of a dish soaks in its own lather between showers and dissolves on its own. That is the only problem these four objects exist to solve.

The classic soap dishWater pools under the bar, the underside never dries, and the soap softens from below. Lifespan halved, sometimes worse.
A support that drainsThe bar hangs, or sits on a surface that breathes: it dries on every face, stays firm to the end, and leaves no puddle.

Fitting the magnetic soap holder, in three minutes

No tools, no drilling. The only step that matters is the second one.

  1. Pick a smooth, non-porous surface: tile, glass, shower panel. The suction cup will not hold on painted wall or grout.
  2. Dampen the soap before pushing in the magnetic insert. On a dry, hard bar the insert forces its way and can split the soap.
  3. Push the insert in at the centre, on the side that will face the wall, flush with the surface.
  4. Clean and dry the surface, press the suction cup firmly, then bring the soap close: the magnet does the rest.
Provenance

Wood, cork, and nothing disposable

The comb and brush are FSC-certified beech, shaped in French workshops. The cork is hand-harvested in Spain and Portugal: the bark is stripped every nine years, and the tree lives on.

These are objects you buy once. A wooden comb lasts ten years, a cork box too, and the magnetic insert moves from one soap to the next: just rinse it.

If I had to keep just one, it would be the magnetic soap holder. It is the cheapest of the four, and the one that changes a bar's lifespan the most.

Frequently asked questions

Mostly about the magnet, to be honest.

How does a magnetic soap holder work?
A suction cup fixes to the wall and holds a magnet. A small metal insert pushes into the soap, on the wall side. The bar hangs in the air and dries on every face between showers.
Does the magnet really hold a whole bar?
Yes, including a new 100 g bar. The point to watch is not the magnet but the suction cup: it must be applied to a smooth, clean, dry surface.
Which surfaces does the suction cup hold on?
Tile, glass, shower panels, glazed ceramic. It will not hold on painted wall, render, grout lines or textured tile.
Can you reuse the insert when the soap is finished?
Yes. Rinse it and push it into the next bar. One holder lasts through a lifetime of soaps.
Does the insert damage the soap?
No, provided the bar is damp when you push it in. On a very dry, hard soap, run it under water for a second first: otherwise the insert forces and can crack the surface.
Soap holder or cork box, which one?
They serve different moments. The holder stays in the shower and dries the bar day to day. The box is for carrying a still-damp soap without soaking your bag.
Does cork keep odours?
It picks up a little of the scent of the soap it carries, which is not unpleasant. A rinse in clear water and air drying is enough to neutralise it.
Wide teeth or fine teeth?
Wide teeth for thick, curly or coily hair, and for detangling damp hair. Fine teeth for fine, straight hair, and for styling when dry.
Why a wooden comb rather than plastic?
Wood does not charge the hair with static, which limits frizz, and its teeth are rounded by sanding: they glide instead of catching.
How do you care for a wooden comb or brush?
Remove the hair by hand, wipe with a damp cloth, then leave it to dry flat. Do not let it soak: wood dislikes standing water, just like soap.
Are these accessories made in France?
The comb, brush and soap holder are made in France. The cork is harvested in Spain and Portugal, then shaped into the box.
Is cork genuinely sustainable?
Harvesting does not fell the tree: the bark is stripped every nine years and the cork oak regenerates. At end of life, the box is compostable.
Does an accessory really make soap last longer?
Yes, and it is the only reason we sell them. A bar that dries fully between uses keeps its hardness and is used up far more slowly than one left in a wet dish.
Is shipping free on a single accessory?
Shipping is free from €40 within the European Union. Below that, costs are calculated by weight: a soap holder on its own goes as a tracked letter.
