An ergonomic, hand-shaped pebble

Our organic pebble-shaped soaps are handcrafted in small batches in our workshop in Provence. Each piece is designed to become part of your skincare ritual: compact, rounded, and elegant. Its shape invites a natural gesture — the palm gliding smoothly over the skin.

Made with certified organic plant-based ingredients, and free from plastic or compromise, they gently cleanse while respecting the skin’s natural balance.

Embrace a format that combines simplicity, effectiveness, and aesthetics — a more mindful approach to beauty, attentive to detail, to yourself, and to the planet.

The pebble format

What is a pebble soap?

A pebble soap is a solid soap shaped like a river pebble: rounded, edgeless, small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. At Sternartica each pebble weighs 90 g, nearly as much as a classic bar: it is the same cold-process, superfatted and organic paste, poured and unmoulded by hand in my workshop in Drôme Provençale. The shape changes, and the gesture with it: the travel pouch, the guest bathroom, the small gift that does not look like a bar of soap.

Why the pebble shape changes the gesture

It sits in the hand

No corner that crumbles, no bar that slips away. Your palm follows the curve and the shower gesture becomes softer.

It dries quickly

No flat face stuck to the holder: the pebble drains on every side and dries between two showers, as long as it stays out of the water jet.

It travels

No bottle, no liquid, nothing to declare in the cabin. One pebble in its case and your toiletry bag really does get lighter.

How to make a pebble soap last

  1. Wet the pebble and glide it straight over the skin, or work up the lather between your hands.
  2. Rinse the pebble after use: leftover lather is what eats it away fastest.
  3. Set it away from the shower stream, on a holder that lets the water drain.
  4. If your bathroom stays damp, a magnetic soap holder keeps it suspended so it dries on every side.

The pebbles are the same soap paste as my 100 g bars, poured into a rounded mould. 90 g instead of 100, and a shape that sits in the palm. I make them in small batches in my workshop in Drôme Provençale and wrap them one by one in FSC-certified paper printed in France. It is the format I most like to give: it fits in a pocket, it cannot spill, and you can see at once what is inside.

Pebble soap: frequently asked questions

The ones people actually email me.

What is a pebble soap?
A pebble soap is a solid soap shaped like a river pebble: rounded, edgeless, small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Ours weigh 90 g, cold-process, superfatted and organic, poured by hand in Drôme Provençale, at €8.50 each.
What is the difference between a pebble soap and a classic soap bar?
The formula is the same: it is the paste of our 100 g bars, poured into a rounded mould. 90 g instead of 100, and above all a different shape. The bar stays in the shower for the daily routine, the pebble travels, gets given as a gift, or rescues the guest bathroom.
Which skin types are pebble soaps suitable for?
All of them, sensitive skin included. Clair de Lune is the gentlest, with no fragrance and no essential oils. Elixir and Amaraterra are for combination to oily skin. Grenada for dull or dry skin. Nostalgia exfoliates, once or twice a week.
Can a pebble soap be used on the face?
Yes. Clair de Lune, Amaraterra and Grenada are fine on the face every day. Elixir, being stronger, is best limited to three or four times a week on the face. Nostalgia, the exfoliating one, is used gently once or twice a week.
How long does a pebble soap last?
Almost as long as a classic bar: 90 g against 100 g, so roughly four to six weeks with daily use. What really makes the difference is drying. Rinse it after use and keep it out of the shower stream, on a holder that lets the water drain.
Can I take a pebble soap on a plane?
Yes. A solid soap is not a liquid: it does not count towards the 100 ml cabin limit and there is nothing to declare. That is the whole point of the format for travelling light.
Are pebble soaps organic?
Yes. They are made with certified organic plant oils and butters (Cosmos Organic, Bio Ecocert). They are vegan, and animal testing is banned for cosmetics in the European Union.
How are they packaged?
In FSC-certified paper, 100% recycled and printed in France. No plastic film, no extra packaging. That is the whole point of a solid cosmetic: the bottle disappears.
Does a pebble soap make a good gift?
That is exactly what it is for. At €8.50 it slips into a gift pouch, an advent calendar or a thank-you note, and it already comes wrapped in its printed paper. A gift is also included in every order.
Where are your pebble soaps made?
In my workshop in Drôme Provençale. I pour every soap by hand, in small batches, with organic oils and butters sourced as locally as possible.
